Privacy policy

MOTBIN Tutors (“MOTBIN”, “we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use motbin.com and our live class platform, why we collect it and the choices you have. We process personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and other applicable laws.

Data we collect

• Account details: your name, email address, phone number, country and password (stored only as a secure hash). Tutor applicants also provide a photo.
• Learning activity: the subjects you subscribe to, the classes you join, and your quiz and assignment results.
• Payments: payment references, amounts and dates. Card and bank details are handled by our payment providers, Paystack and Squad, and are never stored by MOTBIN.
• Messages: anything you send us through the contact form, email, chat or WhatsApp.
• Technical data: basic information such as your IP address and browser, used to keep the service secure and reliable.

How we use your data

• To create and manage your account and deliver your classes.
• To process payments and keep records of your subscriptions.
• To show you, and a linked parent or guardian, your progress.
• To send service emails such as account confirmation, password resets and important updates.
• To answer your questions and improve our teaching and website.
• To prevent fraud and misuse, and to meet legal obligations.

Live classes

Classes take place over live audio and video between the tutor and students in the class. We do not record classes. Files shared in a class are stored securely and deleted automatically after 30 days.

Children

Many of our students are under 18. When someone under 18 signs up, we ask for their parent or guardian’s name and email address and send the parent or guardian a request for consent. Until they agree, the child can sign in but cannot join live classes or subscribe to subjects. We record when consent was given. Parents or guardians may withdraw consent or ask about their child’s data at any time by contacting us.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in, to protect your account and to remember your cookie choice. Our live chat service, Smartsupp, uses its own cookies, which we load only if you allow them. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. Our website analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) do not use cookies.

Who we share data with

We share data only with service providers that help us run MOTBIN, such as hosting, database, email, payment, live chat and video providers, and only as needed for them to provide their service to us. We do not sell your personal data.

How long we keep data

We keep account data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet legal and accounting obligations. You can ask us to delete your account at any time.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal data, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent. Students can download a copy of their data or delete their account themselves from the Account page of their dashboard. For anything else, or for tutor accounts, email info@motbin.com. You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Security

We protect your data with encrypted connections, hashed passwords, secure sign-in sessions and restricted access. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and, for significant changes, tell you by email.
